Indapamide hemihydrate
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab/24 hr, preferably in the morning.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken in the morning. Swallow whole w/ water, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other sulfonamides. Severe renal failure. Hepatic encephalopathy or severe impairment of liver function. Hypokalemia.
Special Precautions
Discontinue if photosensitivity occurs. Monitor plasma Na before starting treatment, then at regular intervals subsequently. K depletion. Increased urinary excretion of Mg resulting in hypomagnesemia. May decrease urinary Ca excretion & cause a slight & transitory rise in plasma Ca. Monitor blood glucose in diabetics. May increase gout attacks in hyperuricemic patients. May give +ve reactions in doping tests. Galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions, maculopapular rashes. Hypokalemia.
Drug Interactions
Risk of increased plasma lithium. Increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias w/ class Ia antiarrhythmics (quinidine, hydroquinidine, disopyramide); class III antiarrhythmics (amiodarone, sotalol, dofetilide, ibutilide); some antipsychotics eg, phenothiazines (chlorpromazine, cyamemazine, levomepromazine, thioridazine, trifluoperazine), benzamides (amisulpride, sulpiride, sultopride, tiapride); butyrophenones (droperidol, haloperidol); others eg, bepridil, cisapride, diphemanil, erythromycin IV, halofantrine, mizolastine, pentamidine, sparfloxacin, moxifloxacin, vincamine IV. Risk of acute renal failure w/ NSAIDs including COX-2 selective inhibitors. Risk of sudden hypotension &/or acute renal failure w/ ACE inhibitors. Additive hypokalemic affect w/ amphotericin B (IV), gluco- & mineralocorticoids, tetracosactide, stimulant laxatives. Increased antihypertensive effect w/ baclofen. Digitalis prep. May increase hypersensitivity reactions to allopurinol. K-sparing diuretics (amiloride, spironolactone, triamterene). Metformin induced lactic acidosis. Increased risk w/ iodinated contrast media. Antihypertensive effect & increased risk of orthostatic hypotension w/ imipramine-like antidepressants, neuroleptics. Risk of hypercalcemia w/ Ca salts. Risk of increased plasma creatinine w/ ciclosporin, tacrolimus. Decreased antihypertensive effect w/ corticosteroids, tetracosactide (systemic route).
